Mount High, Snow Summit, or Big Bear?

Wondering which place to go for snowboarding in Southern California.

I never been to Mount High nor big bear. Only been to snow summit twice. Which do you recommend? and why?

thanks

More people @ Big Bear, so depending on the day of week, Big Bear will be really crowded. However, the plus to Big Bears is there is much more mountain, meaning more to ride/ski on.
I personally would suggest Big Bear for a Monday, Tuesday, Wed., Thursday, Fri. type of thing. Otherwise, for a weekend, stick with the uncrowded Mount High.

Big Bear or snow Summit?! Real snow or machine?

Hi all, Im planning to go to either big bear/snow summit, i know the two mtns are literally next to each other. I have been to snow summit , but not big bear. I am a somewhat beginner (ive snowboard 3 different times, once every 3 years) and I was wondering if you guys have been there…..which one do you recommend and why? I am going with beginners/intermediates. Also , how do you get to big bear, is it literally the same way you go to summit?

Also, it snowed Thurs night, but I know tomorrow (sat) it will be NO SNOW, and in the 40’s ….so they will be making snow. Is real snow better? Ive heard that it is , but I also heard that machine ones are the same since snow is made from water anyway, but I find that fake snow melts faster and makes it hard for me to dig in the ’snow’ =(

I waxed my board today at the shop , the machine one and it made a scratch on my board. should i say something or is that normal. why does it feel rough still.

Hahah thanks guys. ~!

snow machine suks, it just makes fake crappie snow, that hurts, and tunrs into ice, so when u fall, it hurts like a mother tucker.
good luck! and have fun!

i am in big bear and would like to know wo which resort to go to, Bear Mountain or Snow Summit?

I am with family and few of us will snowboard and others will skii. Mostly, snowboarders though…

I’m making the assumption that at least some members of your family will be beginners or low intermediates.

Snow Summit is better for families as they have more beginner and intermediate runs spread all over the resort. They also have a super-long beginner run from top to bottom. There will also be a better mix of both skiers and snowboarders of all types and levels. I think in that way it’s less intimidating.

Bear Mountain has only one long beginner run on the left (looking up the mountain). You get the bump-loving skiers further up the mountain on the left, while you have the park boarders and twin-plankers further up the mountain on the right.

how much Snowboarding question?

I’ve never been snowboarding before but i would really like to try it out, how much would Snowboarding boots, bindings, and the snowboard cost to rent out and then a total. Probably going Snowboarding in Big Bear. Also how much would Snowboarding lessons cost?

I don’t know about big bear but its normally around 75-100 bucks depending on where you go and when. Like nyskiermom said I would say to take a day off and go during the week. Not only is it cheaper but there is only about 1/10th of the amount of people so you get on the lift much faster and you don’t have to worry about there being people on the trail so you can take your time and worry less.

Going to big bear for the first time, what should i expect?

If none of us plan to go skiing or snowboarding, will it still be fun to go up there for 1 day and come back on the same day?

We just want to go sledding and throw snowballs

Snow…..cold……TOO MANY PEOPLE!!

There really isn’t that much to do…..I’d say go to Arrowhead instead….

how can i persuade my parents to bring me snowboarding more often?

i really like snow boarding and i’m starting to get good at it but my parents never bring me. the nearest mountain is only 3 hours drive away ( big bear).
i’m only snowboarding once a year now and thats with the school ski-trip

Most ski resorts have daily specials, such as 2-for-1 deals or half price Tuesdays. If the price is what is killing your parents, sneak those into the conversation. Also, don’t forget to mention the killer bar and the hot cocoa.

I’m going to the snow in Big Bear on Saturday. Is it a little warn there yet? Is the snow melting?

I just bought all the snowboarding materials and I’m not sure if its really cold there or if the snow is melting. If it is, then I’ll probably return a couple things. They were super expensive.

buy an extra coat, it is freezing in Big Bear….BBBBRRRRR

Does anyone have or know someone with a cabin or rental in Big Bear, CA?

I’m looking to take my kids up to Big Bear or Snow Summit to go snowboarding for the first time for a weekend in the end of January and I’m looking for a cabin or somewhere to rent for a couple days that isn’t TOO spendy. Any advice would be great

Hi,

I live in the San Bdno mtns.. for the best connections for anything and everything up here, try the chat boards and community boards at the web site:

This is the web site that local mtn residents use to keep on top of what is going on. Good Luck ;-)
