What are the perfect conditions for snow?

aah
the weather forecast said that there would be heavy snow where I live on Monday…
it’s now Friday and theres no snow… but lots of rain and a little bit of ice.
whats going on?
how cold does it have to be for it to snow?

thanks :)

if the air temperature is so cold that the water droplets freeze, tiny ice crystals form in the clouds. These ice crystals collide with each other in the clouds or grow delicate shapes. The ice crystals combine to form snowflakes. There may be hundreds of tiny ice crystals in a single snow flake. These snow flakes fall from the clouds to form snow on the ground.

If the air temperature is not too cold and the air is very moist, the snow flakes may grow into very large flake up to 1 or 2 centimetres across.

Which gear should i use in averse conditions like snow and freezing rain?

Today i was driving alone the freeway and i was using D gear and i skidded like 4 times. When i asked my mom about it she told me there is a special gear to use for it but didnt know which one is it.I dont know which one is either. In my car i have D,2S,1L.Which one should i use in the snow and what is the difference between these three gears.I am not an experienced driver just go my liscense 6 months ago and the driver who taught me didnt told me anything about gear changes.

In snow you use D just like any other time, you just take it easy. Make sure you have appropriate tires. If you have summer touring tires, that would be very dangerous in snow and ice. As far as freezing rain goes, there is only one safe gear, and that is P. Park the car and sit in front of the fireplace, no vehicle is safe in freezing rain. In reality, this happens rarely. I have only stopped for freezing rain twice in the years I have been driving. I speak from 42 years of driving experience in winter country.

Best vehicle for UP driving? Pick-up, SUV, best in ice/snow conditions?

The upper peninsula of Michigan has some very rough terrain, gravel roads, and a lot of snow/ice in the winter. What is the best car/truck to have in conditions like these? Anyone from UP, Alaska, cold climates please give advice-we think we might have to trade in our Ford Focus sedan before winter sets in!
Yes, we have kids and things to haul. We have been thinking about a Dodge pick-up that uses diesel because a friend from Alaska has one he’s pleased with. Consumers Reports give these a poor rating, though. Our best car was a Jeep Grand Cherokee Larado, until the engine blew and the transmission went out-we found out that these were typical problems for the model and year.

Either one truck or SUV will be fine as long as you have working 4X4 and good winter tires.

I live 90 miles from the Mackinaw Bridge near Gaylord so I know what your in for.

It is not out of the normal for you to get 12" plus overnight

What conditions are necessary for snow?

Can anyone tell me what conditions are necessary for snow? I used to think it was just about temperature, but it can’t just be that?!

It always snows around December 25th when Santa Claus has his sleigh ready to ride with Rudolph. LOL

Does Gutter Filter actually work in snow and ice conditions?

Our home suffered this winter from snow and ice overload on the gutters. We have a metal roof but because the snow stayed around for a few weeks of freeze and thaw, it piled onto the gutters and eventually ripped them off. So we will be replacing the gutters but I wanted something that would prevent ice jams and debris build up.

the home improvement store sell wires that heat up when you plug them they are made to sit in the gutter

How are Mercedes C230’s in the snow/ harsh conditions?

Im thinking about getting one, but I am worried about its handling in bad weather being that its rear wheel drive. Any advice?

I have a C240, and it has a button to use in wet weather. It starts the car in second gear, and it is easier to handle. Also, the tires, etc. are made for higher speeds and better handling than other cars.
Hope this helps!

I am renting a car for state driving. Which car is safer to drive in snow conditions – truck or sedan?

I you can get a AWD sedan, that would be the best. If both the sedan and truck come with 2WD, I’d still go with the sedan. A car is naturally better balanced than a truck but, I would Go for the truck if its the only one with 4WD.
