Which gear should i use in averse conditions like snow and freezing rain?

Today i was driving alone the freeway and i was using D gear and i skidded like 4 times. When i asked my mom about it she told me there is a special gear to use for it but didnt know which one is it.I dont know which one is either. In my car i have D,2S,1L.Which one should i use in the snow and what is the difference between these three gears.I am not an experienced driver just go my liscense 6 months ago and the driver who taught me didnt told me anything about gear changes.

In snow you use D just like any other time, you just take it easy. Make sure you have appropriate tires. If you have summer touring tires, that would be very dangerous in snow and ice. As far as freezing rain goes, there is only one safe gear, and that is P. Park the car and sit in front of the fireplace, no vehicle is safe in freezing rain. In reality, this happens rarely. I have only stopped for freezing rain twice in the years I have been driving. I speak from 42 years of driving experience in winter country.

How can I get cheap or discount lift tickets for Heavenly?

Albertsons in some locations in Nevada and California sell discounted Lift Tickets. The list of specific stores is available on Heavenly’s web site (www.skiheavenly.com) I would definitely call the specific stores in advance though because some claim to participate in the promotion and don’t and some stores sell out of their Heavenly lift tickets. Good luck and have fun!

What was the first ski resort to allow snowboarding?

I am doing a paper for english class, and I need to know. Please include a link for proof.

Suicide Six was the first to allow snowboarding in 1982 I believe, they are based in Vermont, No link for you, but If you search around im sure you can find something.

Mad River Glen, Deer Valley and Alta Still don’t allow snowboarding. Taos was apart of the list until March 2008 when they finally opened their doors to snowboarders.

does anyone know if the Ski Resort Northstar has a Terrain Park or Freestyle snowboard team?

ya
look through the website

i am in big bear and would like to know wo which resort to go to, Bear Mountain or Snow Summit?

I am with family and few of us will snowboard and others will skii. Mostly, snowboarders though…

I’m making the assumption that at least some members of your family will be beginners or low intermediates.

Snow Summit is better for families as they have more beginner and intermediate runs spread all over the resort. They also have a super-long beginner run from top to bottom. There will also be a better mix of both skiers and snowboarders of all types and levels. I think in that way it’s less intimidating.

Bear Mountain has only one long beginner run on the left (looking up the mountain). You get the bump-loving skiers further up the mountain on the left, while you have the park boarders and twin-plankers further up the mountain on the right.

Best vehicle for UP driving? Pick-up, SUV, best in ice/snow conditions?

The upper peninsula of Michigan has some very rough terrain, gravel roads, and a lot of snow/ice in the winter. What is the best car/truck to have in conditions like these? Anyone from UP, Alaska, cold climates please give advice-we think we might have to trade in our Ford Focus sedan before winter sets in!
Yes, we have kids and things to haul. We have been thinking about a Dodge pick-up that uses diesel because a friend from Alaska has one he’s pleased with. Consumers Reports give these a poor rating, though. Our best car was a Jeep Grand Cherokee Larado, until the engine blew and the transmission went out-we found out that these were typical problems for the model and year.

Either one truck or SUV will be fine as long as you have working 4X4 and good winter tires.

I live 90 miles from the Mackinaw Bridge near Gaylord so I know what your in for.

It is not out of the normal for you to get 12" plus overnight

Where do Vail lift tickets all work at?

If I were to buy a 4 day (out of 6 days) lift ticket at Vail…where could I also use it? Would it work at Breckenridge, Keystone, and A-basin?

Thanks!

I’m pretty sure that vail Lift Tickets work only at vail unless you are getting some sort of package for all of those resorts.

Ski/Snowboarding Resort?

I’m turning 17 the end of January and I live in Colorado, I was wanting to go to a resort with two of my friends and my mom. How much does it cost to do that? And do your recommend any places. I don’t have any idea how much it is or if I’ll be abe to. But I know one of my friends and I want to snow board my mom wants to ski and i dont know what my other friend wants to do yet. It would be probably Go On Thursday stay until Sunday. For 4 people ages, 16, 17, 19, and my mom. Any ideas? I livee on the North part of Colorado So ski resorts somewhat close to that, but anywhere around denver is fine.

There are plenty of major ski areas about 60 miles west of Denver along the I-70 coridoor. You could go to Winter Park, Breckenridge, Keystone or Copper Mtn. The above mentioned areas are all nice and not extremely expensive (compared to Aspen or Vail).

The pricing will be (give or take):
at least $150 per night to rent a condo or hotel
Lift Tickets are about $75 per person, per day
ski/snowboard rentals will be about $30 per day
lessons will be about $60
Keep in mind food is usually overpriced at ski areas, so you may want to buy groceries in advance to save money.

Just google the resort name (ie "Copper Mountain ski") and you will find the websites to book lodging.

Have fun.

how much Snowboarding question?

I’ve never been snowboarding before but i would really like to try it out, how much would Snowboarding boots, bindings, and the snowboard cost to rent out and then a total. Probably going Snowboarding in Big Bear. Also how much would Snowboarding lessons cost?

I don’t know about big bear but its normally around 75-100 bucks depending on where you go and when. Like nyskiermom said I would say to take a day off and go during the week. Not only is it cheaper but there is only about 1/10th of the amount of people so you get on the lift much faster and you don’t have to worry about there being people on the trail so you can take your time and worry less.
