What conditions are necessary for snow?

Can anyone tell me what conditions are necessary for snow? I used to think it was just about temperature, but it can’t just be that?!

It always snows around December 25th when Santa Claus has his sleigh ready to ride with Rudolph. LOL

Is there anywhere to purchase discount lift tickets for Big Bear/Snow Summit?

Regular prices are awfully high and most resorts sell tickets through other channels.

SPORT CHALET

Going to big bear for the first time, what should i expect?

If none of us plan to go skiing or snowboarding, will it still be fun to go up there for 1 day and come back on the same day?

We just want to go sledding and throw snowballs

Snow…..cold……TOO MANY PEOPLE!!

There really isn’t that much to do…..I’d say go to Arrowhead instead….

What are some of the better ski resorts in Wisconsin. We are staying in Janesville and are going snowboarding

We are going on Friday the 15th

I would suggest Devils Head if you are staying in Janesville… If your willing to drive a few more hours for probably the best skiing in Wisconsin/Michigan, I would highly suggest Granite Peak (with 74 runs, 700 ft vertical drop)…And if your looking for something close, just go to Alpine Valley which is "okay" skiing, but close non the less…

Is the terrain park on vernon peak at mountain creek, NJ open yet for skiers and snowboarders?

I’m going snowboarding there for six days, but I like ridin park and rails. I can’t go to the south part (which is all terrain parks!).

There will be no terrain park on the vernon base… but there is a shuttle that runs about every 15 minutes from north to south and back and you do not need a separate pass to ride South. Also you can take a trail over there but its flat and not open – good news is the mountain is getting a foot of snow tonight!! whoohoo.

How much does summer lift tickets cost at Breckenridge, Copper Mountain, Keystone?

We are vacationing in Colorado first week of August and want to take the lifts up for the views, just curious which place is cheapest or free.

The mountains are great fun in the summer.

Some bad news first. Breck is pretty much closed this summer because they are renovating the base where the scenic rides would normally be. Usually there is a huge fun park, but minimal parts are open this summer.

Keystone is open though and rides are $12 for adults, $8 for kids, all are 2 for 1 with an adventure pass (you get these if you stay in a Keystone Resort).

Your best bet for everything about Keystone/Breck mountain is to go to snow.com, click on the mountain name and then ’summer’ all the info about EVERYTHING is on here.

Copper Mountain is open this summer and also has a great fun park. Scenic rides there are only 10 for adults and kids are free with a paying adult. You can also add lunch for like $5. You can get an all day adventure pass which is $49 for regular people or 29 if you stay at a copper resort (resorts are really reasonable in the summer). The website for everything to do with cooper mountain is coppercolorado.com

There are usually wine, food, art and all kinds of festivals going on in breck, vail, beaver creek, copper, aspen etc.

Have fun and use the websites for info!!

Can anyone recommend a ski resort for Snowboarding in May/ June in California? Also San fran/vegas road trip?

I am going on a road trip in May/ June from San Fran – Lake Tahoe – Mammoth Mountain – Las Vegas – San Diego – Los Angeles.

On the way we would like to go snowboarding – can anyone recommend a resort that will be open during this time? Also if anyone has done a road trip simular any advise would be greatly received.
Thanks
Lynda

There’s no resort that’ll be definitively open at that time. It’s going to depend on how much snow they still have left. You’ll have to check with the resorts when the time comes.

You can follow the Tahoe area ski resort Snow Conditions here:

what snowboard should i get if i like doing terrain park stuff?

This season i had a rome agent which was pretty good in the terrian park for rails, jibs and pipes (ext). But it is all beat up so i need a new board for next season, i was thinking tech nine boards or a rome artifact…….does anyone have any suggestions on some good flexible park boards?

If you liked the Rome Agent for park, then you’ll love the rome artifact, it’s more of a park board than the agent so it’ll will do you good.

Does Gutter Filter actually work in snow and ice conditions?

Our home suffered this winter from snow and ice overload on the gutters. We have a metal roof but because the snow stayed around for a few weeks of freeze and thaw, it piled onto the gutters and eventually ripped them off. So we will be replacing the gutters but I wanted something that would prevent ice jams and debris build up.

the home improvement store sell wires that heat up when you plug them they are made to sit in the gutter

how can i persuade my parents to bring me snowboarding more often?

i really like snow boarding and i’m starting to get good at it but my parents never bring me. the nearest mountain is only 3 hours drive away ( big bear).
i’m only snowboarding once a year now and thats with the school ski-trip

Most ski resorts have daily specials, such as 2-for-1 deals or half price Tuesdays. If the price is what is killing your parents, sneak those into the conversation. Also, don’t forget to mention the killer bar and the hot cocoa.
